Time to baby proof

Ridley's favorite thing to do in the morning is to go through my bathroom cabinets.  She is only interested in the one full of lotions and hair products.  I guess this is a sign of the girly days to come.  I have to watch her very closely, because everything goes straight to her mouth.  A new item on my to do list, and Ridley isn't going to like it.

Art

We found the perfect piece of art to fill the large empty wall above our tub.  While the boys played at the neighbors' house, John Chris, Ridley, and I made a trip to Dallas to shop.  We immediately found this piece and knew it would be perfect.

Sink

Reed is not allowed to play in our master bathroom for many reasons.  As if the medicine cabinet wasn't enough, the sink has become his new favorite spot to play.  He climbs in the bathtub and then climbs up on the side, so he can turn on the sink.  Of course the hot water is the knob he can reach, so this fun activity eventually turns into a screaming fit when the water warms up.
He takes a few sips of water then pulls the plug to fill the sink.  And what is more fun than playing in a sink full of water?  Absolutely nothing!  No toy, that is for sure.

Downstairs bathroom

I think this is my absolute favorite house project so far. It is a complete atheistic and function change of the space. We now have a very spa-like, full bath retreat. I only wish the master bathroom looked this great. Enjoy guests!

The space was previously two rooms - a wet bar and a half bath. We removed the wall between the two, bumped the ceiling up, and changed the room into a full bath. We replaced everything in the space. From drywall to the toilet, everything is brand new. The eyesore is gone, and the new bathroom fits in with all of the other changes we have made to the house. We love it!

New bathtub

The bathroom project is practically finished with only the minor touch ups and caulking still remaining. We were able to get the tub installed, and the boys took a bath in it tonight for the first time.
They had a blast splashing and playing. The surrounding area was drenched, and we had to refill the tub a few times due to a sensitive tub plug. We all agree the new bathroom is awesome.

Mini electricians

We are reaching the end of our bathroom remodel project, and they boys are still very interested about what is going on in the room. They wonder in every chance they get. John Chris and I were hanging the new vanity light when I noticed Reed had the electrical outlet tester. (This is a tool that beeps if the wires are hot. They are great to use to make sure the power is off before you start working.)
Reed tried numerous times to stick the tester in the outlet. (Please know that the power was off, and the outlet has a built in child safety plug.) Ryland was right there to tell Reed to stop.
Ryland told Reed to "stop sticking that in there. I will take it away." Reed didn't stop, so Ryland snatched it away. This led to a little confrontation between the mini electricians.
Ryland eventually gave up or lost interest, so Reed grabbed the tester. He went right back to attempting to "test" the outlet. He is hardheaded!

Bathroom progress

We have walls! The plumbing, electrical, and sheetrock is complete, so we are on to the fun stuff. The vanity cabinet has been installed, and the tile will go in soon. I am thrilled with the progress and the size of the room. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Bathroom demo

I am loving it already. The bathroom is about 75% demolished, and we are excited for how large the space is beginning to feel. The slate has to be chipped out, and we will get started on electrical and plumbing.
The boys have wanted to be right in the middle of the action. It took all three boys and Cooper to complete the vanity cabinet. They all want to be in the garage that has turned into a workshop.

Bathroom project begins

Good bye ugly half bathroom and wet bar! We are officially getting started on this renovation. This area is one that we have wanted to tackle for a few months, but it just hasn't happened.

It is a step back in time for us. All the rooms around this area have been redone, so this one sticks out like a sore thumb.
We are getting rid of more pickled cabinets and trim, nasty flaking slate floors, gold hardware, and cultured marble counter tops. The biggest change will be the addition of a full bathroom. Since we are removing the awkward wet bar, we will be able to add a bathtub. Here we go again!

House exploring - beautiful dead space

I know the pictures aren't special to anyone other than me and John Chris, but these are beautiful shots of the dead space above the ceiling in our wet bar. Our next major project will be turning the downstairs half bath into a full bath. We have been planning on adding a corner shower, but now we have decided to tear it all out. YAY! We actually will be combining the wet bar and the half bath to make one larger full bath. The ceilings are at different heights, so we were planning to leave the wall and door that separate them now. John Chris removed one of the can lights, so we could stick the camera in to get a shot of what was above. What do you know? We found dead space. Exactly what we were hoping for.

Demolition coming soon!

Poop in the potty

We have been talking about a ton of poop and pee pee at home for the past few months. Ryland has started going in the bathroom to poop. Of course he goes in the room, shuts the door, flushes, and washes his hands. He hasn't been interested in actually using the potty, until today. I went to the bathroom with him today and asked if he wanted to sit on the potty. He agreed to give it a shot. To my amazement, he actually went poop in the potty. He was so proud of himself, and I was so proud of him as well! My baby is getting so big.

Upstairs bath - before & after

The upstairs bathroom was a challenge to say the least. It seems like it took forever and had a new issue every time we turned around. We started demolition the first week we moved in the house, and the bathroom was functional about 3-4 weeks later. The little finishing details took forever! We made a joke about this being the bathroom from hell. The changes are too many to list, and we love the finished room. When I look at it, I get excited about remodeling the master bathroom. I am not quite ready to start that project yet. A little break first.
