Masterpieces with MOPS

Some of my MOPS group met for dinner and painting tonight.  I really enjoy the diversity of this group.  Some of us have multiple children and some only have one.  Some are older, while some are younger.  It was a great night of conversation and laughter, all while painting an old tree picture.

Precious Art

I love this painting Ridley made.  Her fat little hands will only be this small for a short time.

Spring Break

Spring Break is here!  We plan on sleeping later (8:00 instead of 7:15) and playing in our pjs all day.  The boys started the morning by packing up their toys in their baskets and going on airplane trips in my closet.  The baskets turned into boats, trains, and even parade floats.  They traveled the Southern states and made a trip to Anguilla.

After lunch, the boys did a little painting.  Nana gave them some wooden cars and trains with paint sets.  We had an awesome time talking and painting.

The beautiful cars and train after the paint and stickers.

Painting

While we were in Ruston, the boys opened Christmas presents from Aunt Emily and Uncle Jeffery.  They are the coolest paints.  The brush wand lights up when it touches the clear paint, but the paint isn't clear.  It is actually colorful when it gets on the brush and on the special paper.  Super cool!  Thanks!

Craft project - step 1

Ryland loves doing crafts and painting with me.  It is funny to see how interested and engaged he gets in some of our projects.  Today we mixed some concrete powder and water to pour in a circle mold.  He was sure to spread it out smooth and point out any of the bumps or imperfections.  We will let it cure over night, so we can paint it tomorrow.

Painters' tape is yummy!

John Chris and I are finishing up the re-painting of the kitchen cabinets, and we had a few little ones wanting to help. The painters' tape made both of them happy for a moment until Reed decided to chew on it. He was pretty upset when we took it away, so I am sure it is yummy!

Skull painting

We picked up a few little decorations for the final touches on the pirate ship. Ryland's eyes lit up when I told him we were going to paint. He was very serious about making sure he covered the smallest spots. He is in deep artistic thought.
He then realized I was taking pictures, so he decided to be silly.

The skull is almost done. It looks so creepy in this photo, but it turned out really cute. He painted the outside white, and I came back and ragged it to add a little texture. Even though we created a bit of a mess, it was fun to work on this craft.

Painting project

I started working on the entertainment center today, and I quickly had more help than I knew what to do with. I had removed all the decorative trinkets, so I could give the whole cabinet a fresh coat of paint. I have worked off and on caulking the outside of the cabinet, and I needed to finish up the interior shelves. My team stepped in to help out.

As soon as John Chris climbed up the ladder, Ryland had his ladder out. While I sanded and they caulked, Reed observed. He must have thought we were amusing, because he watched and smiled all afternoon. While we wait on the paint to dry, my sweet OCD Ryland, helped me dust and clean the trinkets. What a team!

Nursery progress

John Chris and I worked on the nursery today in hopes of finishing sometime this week. The biggest issue we are having is the trim. We can't find the exact door casing or crown molding to finish off the added walls. The ceiling has been painted, the baseboard has been added and caulked, the electrical has been changed out, the old dark walls have been primed, the fan has been installed, and the furniture has been moved to the room.

Latest house project

The latest small project for the house was my office doors. The doors were originally dark stained French doors that we painted white to match the woodwork and moulding. We tried scraping all the paint off the little panes of glass, but it was taking forever. Another problem was that the edges were still showing the dark brown stain. I had this idea that I would actually prefer the doors to have no panes to create a more simple look. John Chris and I started tearing the old panes out, sanding the edges, priming, painting, and installed clear glass. We finished off the inside edges with a small trim and hung them back in the office for the final coat of paint. We should be able to finish the paint and install the broken door knob next week. Finished project photos are coming soon.

Family room progress

We rented scaffolding to paint the family room and install the new ceiling fan. It is crazy how a little bit of paint can totally change the look of a room. The ceiling has several different vault lines, so it is a pain. This is the last area we have to paint in the main living area, and we will be ready to move into the formal areas.

Ryland helped with the fan assembly. More like the dis-assembly of the fan box, but whatever makes him happy and content is great. The new fan is a good bit bigger than the old one, and it was pretty difficult to get hung. It looks great now that it is hung. I love progress!

Gotta be like dad

John Chris and I wanted to finish the paint in the study today since only the ceiling, above the bookshelves, and around the trim were left. I stepped out of the room just for a moment, and Ryland decided to take over the job. He climbed up the step ladder and was helping dad finish. He really wants to do whatever his dad is doing - only without pants.

House projects in full swing

The kitchen cabinet painting started today, and it is hard work. The cabinets had to be sanded, primed, and painted with 2 coats. John Chris took on this project with his friend, the paint sprayer.
The kitchen with the first coat of fresh paint. It looks so great!
Our luxurious master bedroom. It is a beautiful space with concrete flooring and no electrical or vent covers. Sweet!
Clint and John Chris take a break from the terrible paint fumes. They are both are "high on Kilz" at this point, and they giggled a little too much.
The entry is being used as tool storage and a work space for our many projects.
The family room is getting a big overhaul. The baseboards have been replaced and the shutters and woodwork are all being painted. The slate floor will be removed and replaced with a neutral porcelain tile. We plan on wrapping up the first round of major projects and then we will replace the tile.
