Rough Recovery

I think all the anesthesia and pain medicine is out of Ryland's system, and he finally crashed.  He was running a fever and in pain.  We had a big fiasco with his pain medicine, and since the law has changed on narcotics a few days ago, none of the electronic refills will be honored.  

After a call to the doctor on call, we finally gave him enough Tylenol and Motrin to give him some comfortable sleep.  He was out before the thermometer could read his temperature.  Sleep well, my baby.

Ear infection

Reed woke whinny and clingy. I noticed that he was a little warm, so I checked his temperature. It was right at 100. We spent the morning cuddling and watching a little TV. He wasn't very hungry, and I noticed he was getting warmer. I checked his temperature again, and it had gone to 102.5. I packed the boys in the truck and headed to the doctor.

Unfortunately, his pediatrician's office closes at noon on Wednesdays, so we headed to Dr. Miller's office. After a thorough check, the doctor said Reed had a severe ear infection in his left ear. He prescribed an antibiotic for the next 10 days and Motrin for pain.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. I pray that I haven't passed my ear issues to him. An ear infection is very uncomfortable, and I spent the afternoon and evening keeping him comfortable.

Poor Ryland

My sweet Ryland woke up feeling worse today. I finally got his temp under 100 after motrin and tylenol, but it peaked at 103.5. He can't tell me where he is hurting. He just says "RyRy hurt". I have checked him over and can't find a thing wrong. I noticed that he keeps rubbing the lower right back side of his head. I gently rubbed, and I can feel a small bump, but it could just be a lymph node. Since we are supposed to leave town tomorrow, I decided to go ahead and take him to the doctor.

The doctor checked him out and did a strep test. The test came back negative, and she could see any area of concern either. She diagnosed him with a viral infection and told me to continue the pain relievers. She went ahead and gave him an antibiotic just in case. Again I was told to keep the boys apart and wash everything.

Two down and sick

Well, what do you know? Ryland and I have some sort of little sickness. We are both running a mild fever, coughing, and have sinus congestion. This is one of the worst times we could be sick, because I have a huge bridal show this weekend. I decided that we would go ahead and go to the doctor to try to nip this crap in the bud and get better. It has been a long day of whining and coughing. I hope tomorrow is better.

Another visit to the doctor

Once again Ryland is not feeling well, and he has started pulling on his ears. He had a rough night with a 103.5 fever that would not break. We were up most of the night rocking and medicating. He woke up cranky and a nose full of snot. We headed to the pediatrician again in hopes of feeling better for the weekend.

John Chris was able to come with us today, and I was happy to have him there to talk to the doctor. We went over the symptoms and the doctor tested the urine to see if an infection was to blame. While we were waiting on the results, John Chris mentioned his previous kidney problems. The doctor was concerned and ordered a renal scan for next week. It is a precaution just in case there is an obstruction. The urine test came back negative, so it is apparently just a virus. He went ahead and prescribed an antibiotic and said to continue the decongestant we have been using daily to clear up the ear fluid before it gets infected.
