Volunteering

Old Union held a staff luncheon today to show appreciation for our one of a kind awesome team.  Parents volunteered to lead the classrooms for one hour, so the staff could all eat together.  I volunteered for Reed's class with my friend, Kristi.  About 10 minutes in, we knew we were in over our heads.  These kids are crazy!  I immediately started counting down the minutes, and she blocked the door.  It seems like school is much more "fluid" than it was year ago.  Kids just get up and leave the class for water, bathroom, etc.  Without asking!
After an hour, we were exhausted and begging Ms. Hill to magically reappear, as we stared down the hall.  Note to self, never again volunteer for a teacher's place.  Never again.

The students proudly displayed their turkey feathers on the classroom door.  Every parent made a feather that included what makes their child special.  This is a very heart felt homework assignment that John Chris and I enjoy working on.

Sunday school helper

I volunteered to help with the Sunday school program for the summer. It was a great way for me to get involved at the church, and I started this Sunday. I was assigned to the infant/crawlers room, and it was so much fun. It was different being around little babies again. It also made me realize how big Ryland is getting. I really enjoyed my time, and I am looking forward to next time.

Happy Thanksgiving

Of course Ryland could not have the turkey and dressing, so he had a delicious bowl of sweet potatoes.

As I stop to think of the many, many things I am thankful for this year, I can't help thinking about those that are less fortunate. After a discussion with John Chris, we decided to do some sort of volunteering on future Thanksgivings. We really want our son and future kids to understand and appreciate what they have, and we want them to have a kind heart and a helping hand.

A very thankful Thanksgiving in 2009!

Scottish Rite gift shop

I was trained to operate the gift shop tonight. It has been a long time since I have worked a register and sold nick knacks. It was a very quiet night, but I did have one sale. I sold a $3 gift bag! Wow! I hear that the gift shop gets busier closer to the holidays, and it is fun to see all the new holiday goodies as they arrive. I look forward to volunteering more and getting to know the team.

Scottish Rite Hospital orientation

I attended volunteer orientation at Scottish Rite Hospital tonight. (Junior League of Dallas placement) I am so excited. The hospital is THE orthopedic hospital for children, and all the offered services are free. It is very inspiring and humbling. The children are wonderful, and they make me stop and be thankful for life. I am truly blessed!
