Chapel Hill's Spring Program

Our life is full of blessings.
Today, we celebrated Reed.  He is a smart boy with a kind heart.  He always loves going to school and has an amazing memory of Bible verses.  Chapel Hill has been a perfect fit for him.
Reed sang with his class in Grace Chapel and then showed off his artwork.  I could tell he was proud of himself, and he was beaming.  We are so proud of him!

CHCS Spring Program

My little cutie pie, Reed, had the sweetest program at school.  He was such a great singer, and I loved the sweet songs.  He didn't get nervous or scared, and he did fantastic at the arm motions that were choreographed to the songs.  The program is such a precious event at Mothers' Day.

After the singing, Reed showed off his beautiful artwork.

My boys have been loved and adored at Chapel Hill, and I enjoy watching them interact with their old teachers.  It is nice to see the smiles and hugs!

Easter Art

I love the sweet art that comes home this time of year.  Ridley made a cute bunny & chick finger print picture and a footprint cross.

Reed made a beautiful cross picture.

Muffins with Mom

Ryland invited me to have breakfast with him in the cafeteria before school, and it was really nice to relax and have one on one time.

He wanted me to walk him to class, so he could show me his Texas Cowboy.  It is the one standing above his head with the big blue eyes.  Very cute!

Thanksgiving Art

Some of the amazing art that the kiddos brought home from school.

Class Turkey

All the students in Ryland's class created a turkey feather with their parents.  Each feather had a student's name and a special quality that their parent is thankful for.  Ryland's is in the second row in the middle.  We made camouflage feathers and taped them on the bigger feather.  We are thankful for Ryland, and he is nice and a great hunter.

This picture makes me smile.  Ryland is such an artist.

Folder Goodies

Reed's folder had two precious items from school.  It is so sweet that he was thankful for me and Cooper.  Makes my heart melt!

He also was the Super Scientist for the day.  He loved science class and was thrilled to get the certificate.

Family Tree

Reed made this sweet family tree at pre-school, and I love how he added Cooper.

Art

We found the perfect piece of art to fill the large empty wall above our tub.  While the boys played at the neighbors' house, John Chris, Ridley, and I made a trip to Dallas to shop.  We immediately found this piece and knew it would be perfect.

Art

Ryland created this beautiful bird.  I love how he has mixed the papers and used an industrial medium - electrical tape.  The extra medium got brought into his creation when I told him that he had used enough Scotch tape.  He hung the bird by the garage door, so Daddy would see it as soon as he arrived home.
At some point, one of the legs came off of the body and flopped over.  Reed noticed that the leg had problems, so he decided to help.  He found a black Sharpie and drew the leg back up to the body.  Gosh, they sure make a great team and that is one pretty bird.

Artistic expression

It was a beautiful warm day that was perfect for painting.  I had picked up a few little project items at Michael's in preparation for those long summer days.  Today we learned about the letter S.  Ryland painted a scorpion.  Reed painted a snake, and I painted a few stars.  We had a great time making the S sound and painting the letter S along with our wooden pieces.

The boys finished creatures.

A textured canvas was the perfect backdrop for our dry brushed stars.

Of course there was a ton of silliness too.  These boys figured out how to turn their shirts over their heads.  What am I going to do with these little messes?

Art workshop

Our play group met at a Southlake art studio to create a masterpiece.  The workshop was Valentine themed and created the perfect gift for Dad.  The boys traced hearts and painted with watercolor and glitter paints.

The art studio had a beautiful view of a field with two horses and a very friendly dog relaxing by the door.  He was a huge hit with the kids, and as soon as they caught sight of him, the art wasn't as interesting for the boys.

Bedside Art

When I was getting in bed tonight, I noticed two pieces of paper taped to the urn on my nightstand.  I looked a bit closer and realized it was the pictures Ryland had colored earlier this afternoon.  After he finished his masterpieces, he taped them on the container to surprise me.  I love my Ry Ry!  He is such a sweetheart.

Entry art

We have art! We have been waiting on the perfect piece, and we finally have it. The large wall in our entry has been a big blank eye sore, and it is nice to finally start pulling things together. It is funny how one little thing gives me a bit of excitement and relief. I can't wait until the construction projects are done, so I can put out all of the "girl stuff" aka decorative accessories.

Fun school day

Ryland was in the best mood today when I picked him up from school. It was a beautiful day outside, and all the kiddos had been playing and having a good time. We cruised home with the windows down and let our hair blown in the breeze. What a life!
Ryland made a colorful windsock today with streamers and fall leaves. He was very proud of it and was eager to show it off. He would spin around to get the streamers to flutter.

The construction was a little fragile and the string broke pretty quickly. He wasn't too upset but then decided to pull the streamers off as well. Typical boy!

Art in the Square

Southlake held the annual Art in the Square this weekend, and it was a great time. We loaded up Ryland, Cooper, and the red wagon and headed out for some fun.

The boys stop for a little rest, so I can take a quick picture. Don't they look happy!
Ryland was really into wearing his hat and sunglasses. He got tons of cute comments and so did Cooper.
This was our favorite. The wind would turn the pieces different directions, and it created a vibrant wonder. The artist did an impeccable job on the welding and painting. They were really cool and a show stopper.
Before we could leave, we had to check out the music. We found a shady spot to sit and enjoy the tunes, but Ryland had other plans. He wanted to walk around and visit with everyone. He also liked to stomp around in the flower beads. He is all boy!

Artfest

Ryland's MDO has an annual fundraiser called Artfest. All the kids work on special art projects that are put on display for the parents to come admire. It is like a kiddos art exhibit. Ryland was telling us all about the art, and what the art was "saying".

He couldn't quite figure out why we wouldn't let him touch the pictures. Well, let us think about this. He tried repeatedly to pull off the butterfly body and antennas.
What an artist! Isn't this piece amazing?
Another one of Ryland's priceless pieces of art.
Typical boy. He thought is was so funny to play in the decorative ferns. So very silly!
Yummy! A few Chick-fil-A nuggets, Cheetos, and a bottle of milk. The perfect dinner.
We had a great night. Of course we purchased our child's priceless artwork, and we also won 2 of the silent auction prizes. We will soon be going the Dallas Museum of Art and the Ft. Worth Zoo.

Nasher Sculpture Center

We made a family trip to the Nasher Sculpture Center this morning. It was absolutely beautiful outside, so it was the perfect day to go explore. Ryland had a great time roaming around. He just doesn't quite get the "Do Not Touch" aspect of art.

Picasso sculpture called The Head of a Woman (Fernande).

Flowers in a Vase, which is another Picasso piece.
Bronze Crowd
Even the grass was beautiful! I think he will be an art lover like his mom! Don't you see that smile?

My Curves are Not Mad. The name not just a random thought of mine. I do like that saying though.
Ryland & I pose for a quick picture beside Night by Maillol.
The lobby of the Nasher.

What a view!

We had an awesome time at the Nasher, and we definitely will go back again. It was a great opportunity to experience a little bit of culture. Ryland has seen works by some of the greatest artists - Matisse and Picasso. Even though he doesn't appreciate them now, maybe one day he will. Right now he just wants some crayons, to eat!
