Spring Break 2016 - Fantastic Friday

We talked about Friday's plans all week.  There were several ideas, but we let the birthday boy, Ryland, decide.  He chose to go see Dad's work.  He wanted to go watch the line operators and wear the protective gear.
It was great to see many of Dad's co-workers and give the kids an opportunity to visit.  After lunch at Gloria's, we toured Dad's office and played photo shoot.

Worn Out

I love these two sweethearts so much, and I love seeing them cuddle.  Tonight, they were exhausted!

Relaxing

I am in Austin for a quick trip, and I received the cutest pictures by text.  My children are relaxing with Dad, and he had a few special requests.  Reed wanted to take a bath, and he needed a towel to rest his head.

Ridley and Ryland relax with a little Nabi time before bath.

Ridley curls up under the covers.

Foot Massages

This is too much.  Our children are spoiled rotten, and it is so cute.  Everyone loves a great foot massage.

Happy Father's Day

The best shot of all the kiddos with their awesome Daddy, and 3 of the 5 looking at the camera isn't bad.  We love you!

Who is in Control?

We were headed to Dallas to enjoy crawfish with the Brashears, but first we needed to make a stop at a birthday party.  Ryland and I stopped off at Brady's party, while John Chris took the two littles to pick up a few last minute items for the crawfish boil.  When they came back to pick us up, Reed and Ridley were laughing and covered in chocolate.  This should make for an interesting evening.

Nap Buddies

We have had a rough few nights with Ridley, so John Chris enjoyed a Sunday afternoon nap with her.  I tried to sneak in and catch them cuddled up, but she heard the door squeak.  I love to watch them together.  It is adorable.

Camping Out

Ryland & Reed wanted to camp out in their tent, and their awesome dad agreed.  They set up everything in the backyard and then caught some zzzzs.  John Chris, on the other hand, realized how hard the ground is and how an aching body feels the next day.
Making memories with the boys!

Home

Call us crazy, but who would want to stay in the hospital when you can be at home.  We jumped at the opportunity to go home after 24 hours.  We packed up all our things, and we were waiting on Ridley's testing to come back.  Right at 24 hours, she was cleared and discharged.  Hooray!
We washed her hair and dressed her in the special going home outfit.  She looked absolutely precious, and my old pink smocked bubble was perfect on her.

Our close friend and neighbor, Kelsey, brought decorations for our home.  A girly banner and pink balloons for the mailbox.  So festive.  Love it!

She loves her right hand by her face.  This is something I noticed on the ultrasound, and I think it is too sweet that she does it now.  This is her first nap in her bed.

I just can't help myself when I see these two being so sweet.  I have to take a picture.  Sweet daddy and daughter.

Ice/Snow Day

We knew the winter weather was coming, but we could not prepare ourselves for the excitement of actually seeing the yard covered in ice and snow.  This was the first time Reed was actually interested and old enough to know what was going on.  He beamed with excitement from the minute he peeped out the window.

Ryland was ready to go out in it before breakfast or changing into clothes.

After bundling up in all the warm winter clothes we had, we headed outside to do a little sledding.  John Chris immediately had an awesome idea of pulling the boys on the sleds behind the four wheeler.  Both boys loved it!

After playing out in the freezing cold for a while, we came inside to warm up and do some crafting.  We decided it was the perfect day to paint some wooden boats.

It was time for another round of outdoor fun, but Reed was more interested in cuddling with me on the sofa by the fire.  It wasn't difficult to twist my arm, and I was happy to stay inside with my cuddle bug.
It was such a great day of fun times full of laughter and sweet moments.

Shooting

The boys are very interested in guns since they went hunting with John Chris.  After lots of talking about guns and shooting, John Chris pulled out his old BB gun.  He let the boys shoot at a target in the backyard, and they had the best time.  Reed is still too young to understand aiming, but it didn't stop him from trying.

Ryland is super into it, and he talks about shooting the target.  John Chris explained some basic gun "rules" and talked lots about safety.

After they each had a turn, they would run out to look at the target to see where it was hit.

Buddies

Bath time is over, and the boys are all ready for bed.  We agreed that they could watch one show on TV before calling it a night.  Reed and John Chris snuggled on the sofa, and John Chris drifted off first.  I guess that Special Agent OSO did the trick.

Ryland's first hunting trip

John Chris took Ryland on his first hunting trip this weekend.  It was an all boys weekend at the camp, and they had an absolutely awesome time. They ended up with two big hogs and lots of memories.

Hanging out with Dad

The boys were thrilled to see Dad today.  They both practically tackled him as soon as he walked through the door.  I love to see them hanging out together.  Tonight they are watching Special Agent Oso on Disney - before long it will be all about sports.

Crazy fun

I know, the photo is sideways.  I have tried everything to rotate the image, and I finally just gave up.  It's funny because that pretty much sums up the day.

We needed to order passports for the boys, so they will arrive in time for our trip to Anguilla.  John Chris and I made plans and picked today to meet at City Hall.  I had printed all the documents and filled them out, and I also made sure I had all the necessary documents to validate citizenship and identity.  I loaded the boys in the truck and took off to Town Square.  I wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to visit the Anthropologie sale before we had to meet John Chris.

Town Square was bustling, so I was shocked that I lucked into a car leaving right by City Hall in the shade and on the end of the row.  I was more than thrilled.  It took a little while for the person to load up, but I was happy to wait.  I noticed another car pull up in the other direction and put their blinker on.  Hmmmm.  I sat there patiently, and as the car backed out the other car realized I wasn't budging and gave up.  I unloaded the boys and got them situated in the stroller, and we headed off the Anthropologie for 10 minutes of shopping.

I was in a heavenly place.  The rustic, clean scent of the store and the beautiful clothing and accessories almost had me in a trance.  Until I had to catch the clothes rack before it crashed to the ground.  My dear Reed must have really loved the feel of the adorable pants, because he was desperately trying to take them.  After a couple of sweet mom moments that included a few threats, I almost found myself begging them to be good for just a few more moments while I looked at the new sales items.  My nightmare was fueled by the young employee who kept telling Ryland how cute he was as he ran and climbed under the clothes rack.  Thanks!  He is so cute.  I then realized that my two angels were really putting a damper on my heavenly excursion.  I made a bee line for the door, just as John Chris walked in.

We head to City Hall only to find that the passport office was slammed.  There were 5 other groups of people waiting ahead of us, and I couldn't help but feel bad for them.  As we sat and entertained the boys, we overheard that checks were the only payment method accepted, and that 3 checks per transaction were necessary.  What?  I skimmed back over the paperwork, and the payment section said nothing of that nature.  I had only one check, so we had to make a decision.  I voted to give up and go home, but John Chris didn't think he would be able to get another afternoon off.  He headed to the house to grab the checkbook.

I did the best I could to keep the boys from tearing that place apart, but there is only such much 2 active little boys could do in a waiting room.  We played with the globe a little before it turned into a pushing contest with the winner knocking it over.  I safely kept Reed from electrocuting himself with any one of the million electrical outlets.  I remembered I had a toy in my bag, so I pulled it out and started entertaining them with the circus zebra that flies out of the cannon.  I really felt great as they argued about whose turn it was to chase the flying zebra.  It was finally our turn, and John Chris walks in right before she calls us over to the desk.  All our paperwork looks great and our documents pass her inspection.  They boys take their photos, and I write out 3 individual checks for the fees.

We are done.  Task complete.  John Chris is completely overwhelmed in just the fifteen total minutes he was there.  We both agree that MiCocina's dinner and drinks sound perfect.  The craziness only got a worse, and I knew it was time to go when the bus boy walked by our table and mumbled "JESUS" under his breath.  Yes, I would have to agree.  It was a mess.  I attempted to clean up as John Chris paid our tab.  We politely apologized to the tables around us as we head out, and both of the couples smile and laugh as they tell us how adorable the boys are.  I have to agree, but today was just off.

When we arrive home, Ryland starts begging to go swimming.  He immediately starts whining and crying.  I slipped his water wings on, and I made a dash for the pool.  I jumped right in which made him shriek with laughter, because I had my clothes on.  He jumped right in, and Reed followed right behind too.  The three of us laughed and giggled as John Chris snapped our picture.  This was the perfect end to a crazy fun day.

Mowing the yard

The final preparation before the party tomorrow was to mow the yard.  Reed was following John Chris around in the yard like he was chasing him or the mower.  My husband was so sweet to lift Reed up for a shoulder ride while still mowing the yard.

Monster Truck Show

Ryland is really into monster trucks, so we thought he would love a chance to see them in person. We had a sitter keep Reed at the house, so we could spend the evening with Ryland. The show was at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, and I have never seen Ryland so excited. He woke up talking about going, and when we got there, he was shaking with excitement. We grabbed some food and drinks and settled in for the show.
Ryland was happy as could be with popcorn and monster trucks.
We watched all the qualifying and then the big race. It was very close, and they had to watch a frame by frame video to see that the Grave Digger won!
Ryland really liked the Superman and Monster Mutt trucks. They were his favorites.
Me and Ryland enjoying the show.
The freestyle round got pretty loud. We made sure to bring earplugs, but the trucks were still very noisy.
Oh no! One of the trucks lost a wheel and kept going nuts rolling over cars and jumping. Ryland has really got into the spirit of the crowd at this point. He was screaming and sticking his arms in the air.
Jeez! Ryland went completely nuts. What good monster truck fan doesn't pull his shirt up? Ryland went absolutely crazy! It was hilarious.
The 30th anniversary of the Grave Digger
John Chris and Ryland are both into the show. I think this will be the first of many shows for us.
Go Grave Digger!
Spinning around and around - making a dirty, dusty mess. Yes!
After the show ended, Ryland was really sad to leave. He wanted to stay and get a shirt, cup, hat, and anything else with a monster truck on it.
John Chris and I talked about how great this night was for us all. We had a blast watching our little boy totally enjoy and really get into the show. We both agree that this is one of the best memories ever!

Daddy's tools

I realize my boys are way more interested in Daddy's tools than Mommy's craft supplies, but come on. Reed is totally blown away by the air compressor. I am really surprised, because it is loud, but he loves it. Even when it is off, Reed is drawn to it like a magnet.
I guess I could always contract them out. Hey, I might have the supplies to make a great sign.

Trick-or-Treat

We had a great night trick-or-treating! John Chris and I decided to dress up as pirates and join in the fun. We set sail down our street to rob the neighbors of their loot. Everyone loved that the whole family was decked out, and the boys' pirate ship was awesome. We headed home to enjoy the rest of the night by handing out candy, and checking out the cool costumes.

This was the best Halloween ever!
