Reed's 4 year well check

It was the big, dreaded 4 year well check today.  Reed wore a paper gown, peed in a cup, and completed all the development tests.  I was so impressed with this big boy!  Reed is 41.5" inches tall - 75% and weighs 41 pounds - 75%.  He surpassed all the quizzes and did great on vision and hearing.  At the end of the appointment, the nurse tried to draw blood, but couldn't get his vein, twice.  That was all I could take of his pain, before I told her that was enough.  Shots, so we can get out of here, please.  Reed is one tough boy, but he is still the sweetest little guy.

Caught up on shots

Since Reed was sick on one of the well baby checks, we were one round of shots behind.  After discussing a catch up plan with the pediatrician, we decided to schedule the make up round.  I had both boys with me, so I was mentally preparing for the worst.  The nurse gave both shots, and Reed only yelled at her.  He didn't cry or whine.  He yelled at the nurse.  I picked him up off the table, and we wiggled down to the floor.  He wanted to walk out on his own, and so he did. No problems or issues.  He was just over it.  He did want a sticker before we left though.  Crazy boy!

Reed's 2 month well visit

Reed saw his pediatrician for his 2 month well check today. The doctor said he looks great and had no concerns. He did mention that Reed obviously doesn't have an issue gaining weight. I would agree that is quite obvious. He weighed 14lbs 6.5 oz - 96%, 24 inches - 86%, and his head was 16.25 inches - 82%. It is fair to say, Reed is growing very quickly and is proportionally a big baby. He didn't cry the whole time the doctor checked him, and he made smiley faces and flirted with the nurses. He was his normal laid back self until he received the shots. Ouch! He let us know he wasn't happy.

Well check

Ryland had his 18 month well check today with the pediatrician. When we pulled up to the office, he noticed the large blow up skull beside the building. He walking right over to it, pointing and talking. I would think that spiders crawling on a skull would be a little creepy for little kids, but maybe that is just me. ???? Anyway, I must be wrong because Ryland had no problem with it.

Everything went well with the check up, and Ryland is a normal healthy little boy. He weighs 27.5 lbs and 33" tall. He has slowed down in growth and is getting closer to normal range. He is now in the 65%. The doctor suggests not to even attempt at potty training right now, because he will just regress when the baby comes. She said I would end up having to do it twice, so she wouldn't bother right now. Still she thinks talking about it is very helpful. I decided to go ahead and get a flu shot for Ryland, and I had to sign a waiver. He thought he would serve as my legal counsel and make a few adjustments to the document. Such a big boy.

12 month check up

Ryland must have known the shots were coming. He was Mr. Happy in the waiting room, but everything started to change when the nurse took his temperature. He started crying hysterically. He cried the entire time she did the preliminary check. I had no idea that getting measured could cause so much pain. The minute the nurse left, Ryland was quiet. The doctor came in and the crying started again. He checked him out and said he looked great. He is still very concerned about Ryland's ears. The ears were not infected today, but they looked terrible. There isn't any fluid behind the eardrum, but there is swelling and pressure. The doctor wants to continue the antibiotic a few more days and try a different decongestant to try to reduce the swelling. We will re-evaluate in a week. If there are any signs of a problem, we are being sent to a specialist. The great news is that the scan from earlier this week was negative for an obstruction. Yes, this is great news! The doctor left the room, and Ryland decided to have some fun. He loves to tear the paper on the table, and he thinks it is hilarious to shred it. The fun didn't last long, because the nurse came back with the shots. Oh no, the party was over.

9 month check up

Ryland's 9 month check up went very well. It is almost impossible for me to believe he is already 9 months old. He weighed in at 23lbs 8.5 oz and 29.5" tall. Both are in the 75-90 percentile, so he is still a big boy. He had a urine and blood test, and they both came back normal.
The bad part of the visit, shots. OUCH! Ryland screamed, cried, and quivered like a baby. It breaks my heart to see him so upset, but I know it is for his own good.

2 month checkup

Ryland had his 2 month check up today. He weighed in at 14lbs and 24.25" long. He is in the 90-95 percentile. I will just say that Ryland is a big boy. He has definitely filled out, and he has plumped up. The doctor said that Ryland looked great and not to worry about his size. It was also time for Ryland to get his shots. It was very hard to watch, but the nurses did a great job getting it over fast.
